Philosophy of Ministry
Calvary Chapel of Blue Island is a non-denominational church formed as a fellowship of believers under the Lordship of Jesus Christ. We acknowledge all who believe in Jesus for their Salvation as fellow members of the Body of Christ, the Church, and we welcome all who seek fellowship we enjoy with Him. CCBI was established in 1985 through a coffee house ministry in fellowship with Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa ( Pastor Chuck Smith) in California. We have no membership list, only individuals seeking to commit and be their part of the Body of Christ as the Holy Spirit leads with His gifts and callings. Our supreme desire is to know Christ and to be conformed into His image by the power of the Holy Spirit.

It is the policy of this church to give pre-eminence to the preaching of the gospel, to studying the Word of God, and to exalting the Lord Jesus Christ.

We Believe: Worship of God should be spiritual.
Therefore: We remain flexible and yielded to the Holy Spirit to direct our worship.

We Believe: Worship of God should be inspirational.
Therefore: We give a great place to music in our worship.

We Believe: Worship of God should be intelligent.
Therefore: Our services are designed with great emphasis upon teaching the Word of God that He might instruct us how He would be worshipped.

Statement of Faith - we believe


The Word ...the Bible to be the inspired and only infallible and inerrant authoritative Word of God.
(II Peter 1:19-21, II Tim. 3:16)

The Trinity ...there is one God, eternally existing in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
(Deut. 6:4, Heb. 1:3, Acts 5:3-4)

God the Son ...we believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, and in His atoning death, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal future return to this earth in power and glory to rule for a thousand years.
(John 1:1-18, John 20:26, Mark 16:19, Luke 1:34, Heb. 4:15, 1Cor. 15:3-4, Rev. 20:4)
Salvation ...the only means of being cleansed from sin is through repentance and faith in the precious blood of Jesus Christ.
(Acts 16:30-31, 1 John 1:7-10)

Born Again ...that regeneration by the Holy Spirit (to be born again) is absolutely essential for the salvation of lost and sinful man.
(John 3:1-8, Titus 3:5)

Baptism by Water ... Jesus commanded us to be baptized; however, our baptism does not add to our salvation by grace at all. It is an outward expression of the inside heart that is dead to sin but alive to Christ. (Matt. 28:19-20, Acts 2:37-39)

Communion ...the Lord instituted the Lord's Supper to have us remember what He did to provide our salvation. We should do it often to proclaim His death until He comes. (1 Cor.11:23-26, Matt. 26:26-29)

Baptism by Fire ...the baptism of the Holy Spirit, according to Acts 2:4, is given to all believers who ask for it.
(Luke 11:13, Acts 1:8, 1 Cor. 12:13)

Holy Spirit Power ...in the gifts of the Holy Spirit mentioned in the Scriptures and that they are all valid for today if they are exercised within the Scriptural guidelines. We encourage their use, but always decently and in order.(1Cor. ch.12, 13, 14,)

Holiness ...in the sanctifying ministry of the Holy Spirit, by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life.
(Romans 8:11, 1 Peter 1:2)

The Rapture ...in the pre-tribulation rapture of the church. (1 Th. 4:13-18)

Eternity for all ...in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; that they are saved unto resurrection of life and that they are lost unto the resurrection of damnation. (Mt. 25:31-46, Rev. 20:11-15)
