Calvary Chapel Bible
College Germany - Siegen
How to Get to the Campus from Frankfurt Airport by Train
This page will help you find your way from the baggage claim at
Frankfurt Airport to a train station near the Bible College Campus by train. The journey
has these basic steps:
1. From the baggage claim area to the train station at the
airport
2. From the airport train station to the Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof (Main Train Station)
3. From the Frankfurt Main Train Station to the train station at Siegen
Hauptbahnhof
4. From the Siegen Hauptbahnhof to the Siegen-Eiserfeld train station.
You might need to change trains in the city of
Giessen (Gießen) depending on the train schedule.
The Eiserfeld train station is directly across the street
from the Bible College Villa, our main residence building (it is the
three-story white tudor-style [fachwerk] house with the iron fence
surrounding).
FROM BAGGAGE CLAIM TO THE AIRPORT TRAIN STATION
When you get off your plane, you will come through
passport control, then baggage claim and customs. Remember that
students from the USA can simply come into Germany as tourists and their
stay will be extended once they are here. USA students don't need a
special visa or to tell the passport control that you come as a student.
The airport train stations (Bahnhöfe) are at Terminal 1.
Some flights
from the USA come into Terminal 2. If your plane landed at Terminal 2
(gates D or E) then you need to take the Shuttle from Terminal 2 to
Terminal 1.
The shuttle (also called "Sky Line") leaves from
an upstairs platform. From the arrival level in Terminal 2, take the
escalator upstairs. You can actually take your baggage trolley up the
escalator or you can use an elevator to get to the Sky Line platform. Wait
for the next available shuttle - they all go to Terminal 1. Get on and
when you arrive at Terminal 1, you can get another baggage trolley when
you get off the shuttle. You will need to go down to the main level to
make your way to the airport train stations (Bahnhöfe).
FROM
THE AIRPORT TRAIN STATION TO THE FRANKFURT MAIN TRAIN STATION
Following the signs for the Bahnhöfe, you will
come down another level and see the train service information desk (the
staff there almost always can speak English). The
German Rail service is called Deutsche Bahn abbreviated into DB.
Facing the information desk, the place you buy your ticket is to your
right. Right next to the place where you buy your ticket is a place to
change money and an ATM to get Euros with an ATM card. They may accept US dollars at the ticket counter, but if you will need to
pay for your train ticket in Euros you can change money at these nearby
places. You can also use a VISA or MasterCard to buy your ticket. The
ticket will cost between 11 and 25 Euros.
When you buy your train ticket, remember your final
destination: Siegen-Eiserfeld. You will need to change trains at the main
train station in Frankfurt, but you buy your ticket for the entire trip
here.
Which Train do I Take?
Your destination is Siegen. There are two kinds of trains that go to
Siegen from your area - direct trains and trains that require you to
change trains along the way. You already have to change trains at the
Frankfurt Main Train Station - your choice is whether you will change
trains again on the way from the Frankfurt Main Train Station to Siegen.
Every
two hours a train leaves Frankfurt Main Train Station that goes directly
to Siegen without having to change trains. If you want another train,
you will have to get one that changes in Giessen (Gießen). If you change trains in
Giessen you will have to carry your luggage across several platforms and
up and down a set of stairs. It's not impossible, but it is definitely
easier to take the trains that go directly to Siegen. If you want to see the train
schedule for all the trains from Frankfurt to Siegen, go to the Deutsche
Bahn website here: http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en
After you buy your ticket, you need to go downstairs to
get to the train platform. Trains for the Frankfurt Main Train Station
come often, leaving every 15 minutes. Get you and your luggage aboard and
enjoy the ride. It will only be about 10 minutes until you reach the main
train station where you will switch trains. Have your ticket handy - a
conductor will probably come by and verify your ticket.
FROM THE FRANKFURT MAIN
TRAIN STATION TO SIEGEN
The ride will be about 10 minutes to
the Frankfurt Main Train Station. When you get off the train from the
airport, you will be in a large train station with many trains leaving
from several platforms. There, you will go up a level and find the track (Gleis)
for
your train to Siegen. If you need help, there is an information
counter. There are also places to eat in this area, but don't wait for the last few minutes to get on
the train, because it will take you a few minutes to move your luggage
aboard.
Once you get you and your luggage on the train for Siegen, enjoy the ride. It will be about 90 minutes or so, and when
you arrive at Siegen, then look for or ask about the train going to the
very next stop - Siegen-Eiserfeld.

IF you have to change trains in Giessen, this is where you do
it.
