About Steven and Joann Price

Steve is originally from eastern Washington and moved to Oregon in 1970.  Joann's family (Casteel) have been long time residents of Aloha, Oregon. Steve and Joann met at Aloha Park gradeschool and were both active at Faith Bible during Junior High and High School. Steve attended Aloha High School but transferred to Faith Bible Christian School for his senior year, being the sole graduate for 1977.

Joann graduated from Aloha in 1978 and went on to Linfield College. Steve attended Prairie Bible College from 1977-1981, graduating with a Bachelors degree in Theology.

Steve and Joann were married October 2, 1981 and moved to eastern Oregon where they served as youth pastor in Burnt River Community Church in Unity, Oregon. Moving back to the Portland area in 1983 they served two summers at Trout Creek Bible Camp and on staff at Sherwood Baptist Church. While on staff at Sherwood Baptist Church Steve co-authored two books designed for use in junior or senior high Sunday School programs.

Beginning in 1987 Steve worked for US Bank and they began attending Montavilla Baptist Church (SE92nd and Hawthorne). While attending at Montavilla Steve and Joann worked as lay leaders of the children's sunday school program.

Believing that God wanted them in full-time ministry they began investigating the possibilities. In 1991 they were contacted by Reach Out Ministries, located in Atlanta, Georgia. Reach Out Ministries, established in 1977, exists to equip youth workers for strategic youth ministry.

Annually Reach Out trains hundreds of youth workers in the USA in the "how-to's" of youth ministry. In several cities our domestic staff is actively coordinating the youth work of the entire city with the goal of reaching every young person with the gospel. Reach Out is committed to ministering to the community through the local church.

Reach Out had recently been invited to begin work to the churches in eastern Europe. Their strategy consists of training conferences and discipleship material. The founder of Reach Out, Barry St. Clair, has written a popular five part discipleship series, Moving Through Maturity.

Steve agreed to come on staff with Reach Out Ministries in the  capacity of Curriculum Development. Steve is responsible to oversee the translation, publication and distribution of their books in their countries of ministry. Reach Out is currently active in Ukraine, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania.

After raising most of the support needed to serve in Europe, the Price's moved to the Atlanta area in 1994 to be involved in the office and to finish support raising. On December 1st, 1995 they arrived in Bratislava, Slovakia. Their welcome to eastern Europe was the heaviest snowfall in 50 years! The Price's relocated to Budapest, Hungary in June of 1998 to a part of the administrative team.

Since being in Europe Steve has edited and formatted a 600+ page Youth Ministry Compendium that is being used in teaching and discipleship programs. Additionally Steve has been a part of the production of a monthly youth workers packet that is sent to about 200 youth workers in the Slovak Republic. Steve has also been busy formatting some of the books that are used in our basic training material, the "Moving Toward Maturity" series. These books are being printed in Hungarian and have already been done in Slovak, Romanian and Russian. In addition Steve has been preparing the Leader's Guides for printing of these books so that they can be used more effectively.

Joann, in addition to language study and the demands of life, homeschools their four children, Christopher, 15, Andrew 13, Anna 11, and Matthew 9. In Slovakia the family was active in a small Slovak church in Bratislava. Since coming to Budapest they have been attending Danube International Church. Joann has been assisting in the women's ministry and Steve has led the Jr High youth group for two years and is a deacon in the church.
