A Note from Pastor Keith

October 10, 1999

Beginning in Luke 7:36, we read the unforgettable story of a "woman of the streets" who enters the house of one of the religious leaders of that day and weeps at the feet of Jesus. Wiping His feet with her tears and her hair and anointing them with perfume, she ministers to Jesus despite the objections of the Pharisees. What an incredible picture of worship!

Jump ahead two books to Acts chapter 4, and there we find two of Jesus' apostles, Peter and John, filled with the Holy Spirit and proclaiming the Good News to all who would listen. Despite the objections and warnings of the Sadducees, they proclaim in verse 20 "we cannot stop speaking about what we have seen and heard." This statement stands as an exhortation to us all even today.

Two stories, two different circumstances, and people with completely different lifestyles - yet some very important similarities. First and foremost, the woman and the apostles had been personally touched by Jesus; they had had a personal encounter with their Savior that changed their lives. Second, their actions were a response to the transformation Jesus had brought into their lives. And third, they continued in their displays of affection and obedience despite the objection of others.

These two stories are an encouragement to us today. They remind us of the transformation that is possible in someone's life through a relationship with Jesus Christ. They encourage us to be bold in our worship and our devotion and to share our lives and the Good News with those who are lost.

They encourage us that, by the power of the Holy Spirit, we too can become a people who say "we cannot stop speaking about what we have seen and heard."

In His service,

Pastor Keith
