A Note from Pastor Rich

May 14, 2000

Anna M Jarvis (1864-1948) first suggested the national observance of an annual day honoring all mothers, because she had loved her own mother so dearly. On May 10, 1908, at a memorial service for her mother, Miss Jarvis gave a carnation (her mother's favorite flower) to each person who attended. Within the next few years the idea of a day to honor mothers gained popularity, and Mother's Day was observed in a number of large cities in the United States. We honor all mothers today in the same way!

To all the mothers here today, and to those whom God has allowed to "mother" other's children, we are truly blessed to have you with us. May God open the heavens and pour out His great love to you for all that you have done, for all that you do, and for all you will give of yourselves in the months and years to come.

This is also a time to acknowledge that there may be some for whom Mother's Day holds less pleasant memories, and for those we offer a prayer of comfort. May this be a day of healing and refreshing, a time when God would reveal to you His awesome love. May the Lord truly be your joy.

 Your Servant,

Rich
