A Note from Pastor Rich
May 28, 2000
One of the greatest writers of late is Oswald Chambers. Probably his most famous book, one that should be read by all Christians, is his devotional "My Utmost for His Highest." What most people don't know is that he didn't write it. It's an interesting story.
Young Oswald had a deep conversion experience that caused him to desire God in every area of his life. He studied his Bible with great diligence and sought God in a most intimate way. Oswald soon met and married a local court stenographer who had the same passion for the Lord. The faith they shared was so strong that many were blessed by their example.
Oswald soon grew great in wisdom and in stature before the Lord. When he spoke, God added great success to his ministry. He traveled throughout the world teaching the love and faithfulness of God, his wife a constant and faithful companion. He preached the Word and people fell in love with God. Unfortunately, Oswald died at a young age while traveling to Egypt. What a waste, it seemed, to have such a man of wisdom die at such an early age. But here is where the hand of God did a remarkable thing. The wisdom he had received from the Lord was recorded in the pages of his wife's notebooks.
Wherever they went she sat quietly recording everything that God had given him to say. Today, pastors and teachers throughout the world are taught daily from the great works that followed as those notes were printed. God had blessed Oswald with a wonderful wife, but God was also setting in motion a plan to bless the world. Trust God. He brings about awesome gifts from what seem to us to be tragedies.
Your Servant,
Rich
